Newsletter October 2024

Tuesday, 29 October 2024 by Sandie Hampton

What has happened in the last month:

a)      Due to falling numbers playing on a Thursday night we combined the Thursday players with Tuesday players. The mood of the room has been great, and we know some of us get a hiding on points from the experienced players. That is bridge.

b)      The committee have meet and is working on a plan to bring back Tuesday nights as they were and reinstate Thursday nights in 2025. We would, however, ask our more experienced players who play on a Tuesday night to consider transferring to Thursday nights. There is no pressure but please consider the offer.

c)      Friday social bridge is functioning well without a director and thanks to all those who make this happen.

We have a shortage of winner's photos so if you took a photo of winners in the past month please send it to me for publishing. I did have one sent to me, but I seem to have mislaid it in my e-mails.

We ended the year of tournaments on a real high note with 10 tables of juniors and novices and it went well, and everyone seemed happy.

What is coming up?

The Annual General Meeting is to be held on Monday, 25 November at 5pm. Please note this in your diary as we need a good turnout of people to tell us what you want to happen for the next year. General Business is the part of the meeting where you can share your thoughts. Also please think about offering to do a job/task for the club. Many hands make light work. The lists will be up on the boards in the next couple of weeks. The meeting pack will be out in around three weeks.

The Christmas Party is scheduled for Tuesday, 10 December at 7pm - Social Bridge under Philippa’s direction so we will need to wait and see what she has in store for us. There will be a continuous supper, free drink on arrival, and lots more. We will share more later.

Lessons next year.  These will be happening in the New Year so if over Christmas you are talking cards with friends suggest Bridge is a game that we all should play.

To finish this newsletter, attached is a copy of a poem that Ken C wrote. We all miss Ken.
